This week Sandra Wood will be taking out place. We have asked here to lead the class through a number of dances off the Kingston Ball, November and Chirstmas socials.
Here are the dance instructions. At the time of this posting I didn't have the full instructions for New Caledonia Jig. I used minicrib but the instructions for bars 17-24 don't make sense. Hopefully I can clear this up before the class. Please check back for updates
THE HIGHLAND RAMBLER
(a 40 bar reel for 3 couples)
Roy Goldring, Leeds Branch, Silver Jubilee.
1 – 4 1st couple dance towards each other then cast to 2nd place; 2nd couple steps up.
5 – 8 1st and 3rd couples dance Right Hands Across once around; 1st lady remains facing out.
9 – 12 1st and 2nd couples dance Left Hands Across once around; 1st lady remains facing out.
13 – 16 1st lady followed by her partner casts up around 2nd lady and dances down the middle to finish 1st lady between 3rd couple and 1st man between 2nd couple; all facing down.
17 – 24 In lines of three, all dance down the set, turn (pulling back right shoulders) and dance up again; 1st couple remains facing up.
25 – 28 1st man followed by his partner casts off one place on the ladies’ side and dances across the set to 2nd place on his own side; 1st lady finishes on her own side.
29 – 32 1st couple turns by the Right Hand.
33 – 40 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance Six Hands Round and back.

Dances for October 27, 2011
We resuming the blog for what is now the Ottawa RSCDS Branch Intermediate class. Hopefully, the dancers will find int useful to review the dances covered.
This week we will be introducing a formation recently adopted by the RSCDS. It is called the circulating allemande. It is a variation on the standard 3 couple allemande in that 2nd couple is going in the reverse direction (i.e down the men's side rather than up the women's side). Unfortunately, this hasn't been entered in the online database. We will cover it in class but if you would like to read it over have a look at The Flower of Glasgow.
Here are the dances for this week.
The Flower of Glasgow
32-bar strathspey for three couples in a three-couple longwise set
Devised by Ruth Taylor, Kingston (Ontario) Branch.

Bars Description
1 – 6 1st woman, followed by her partner, casts off two places, crosses over below 3rd couple and casts up while her partner dances up the middle of the set. 1st couple finish in second place on opposite sides. 2nd couple dance up on the side lines to first place on bars 5-6.
7 – 8 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples set advancing to finish in the middle in promenade hold, 2nd and 3rd couples facing up and 1st couple facing down.
9 – 16 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance a circulating allemande:
2nd and 3rd couples dance as first and third couples of a standard allemande to finish in third and first places on own sides. At the same time, 1st couple, from second place, dance an allemande but dance out to the men’s side and down to begin.

17 – 24 1st couple and first corners dance a corner chain. 1st couple finish facing second corners.

1 – 8 1st couple dances a figure of eight on the sides. Begin by dancing between the 2nd couple.
9 – 16 1st, 2nd and 3rd couples dance back to back and turn giving right hands.
17 – 24 1st couple lead down the middle and back.
25 – 32 1st and 2nd couple dance a poussette.
Repeat, having passed a couple.
Note: Sister Blanche was the resident cat in the church hall at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Ben Lomond, California. She enjoyed being part of the set, but had to be gently removed when she failed to cast off in time.
We didn't have time for the rest.

15 – 16 All giving left hands, third man and second woman change places diagonally, the others turn on the sides (first woman with second man, third woman with first man). The first couple finish back to back facing first corners.
