Just a reminder that the class on September 30 will be a combined class of the intermediate and basic classes.

Welcome new Scottish Country Dancers
Welcome to the blog for the RSCDS, Ottawa branch, Thursday basic class. I hope to post information on what was has been covered in the class. I will also post some additional resources available online.
We held the second class last night. I was glad to see many people return after their first week. The Ottawa branch allows you to attend a second class at no extra cost. If you can, try to attend the Tuesday Basic class as well. You will pick up Scottish Country Dancing almost twice as fast by going to class twice a week.

32 bar Jig
Let’s All Dance, Too, 1997, by Torf, Austin, Texas & Boston Branch
Bars Directions
1 – 8 1st couple turn with right hands, then with left hands.
9 – 16 2nd couple repeat bars 1-8.
17 – 24 1st couple lead down the middle and up to 2nd place.
2nd couple step up on bars 3-4 of the phrase.
25 – 32 2nd and 1st couples dance right hands across and left hands across.
Repeat from new places.
The “Oban” Reel
A 32 bar reel for 2 couples, John Trew, Let’s All Dance
1-8 1st couple dance a figure of eight around 2nd couple. Dance down and cross to begin.
9-16 2nd couple dance a figure of eight around 1st couple. Dance up and cross to begin
17-24 1st couple turn by the right hand and cast off one place on own side (4 bars). 2nd couple step up on bars 3-4 of the phrase. 1st couple turn left hand to place (4 bars)
24-32 2nd and 1st couple dance rights and lefts
ANTARCTICA BOUND
(J4x32) 4C Set R Goldring Scotia Suite
1- 8 1s+2s cross RH, cast down 2 places, cross RH & cast up to places
9-16 3s+4s cross RH, cast up 2 places, cross RH & cast back to places
17-24 1s+4s Adv+Ret (diagonally), 1s cast bottom as others step up
25-32 All circle 8H round & back
