1 – 8    1st couple dance a reel of three with 2nd man, 1st woman passing 2nd man with the left shoulder to begin the reel.

9 – 16    1st couple dance a reel of three with 2nd woman, 1st woman passing 2nd woman with the left shoulder to begin the reel.

17 – 20    1st couple set to each other across the dance then turn with two hands.

21 – 24    1st couple dance down between 2nd couple and cast up to the top.

25 – 32    1st and 2nd couples allemande.

Repeat, having passed a couple.

THE  TWA  MEENIT  REEL.
Devised by Roy Clowes.
A reel for four couples in a longways set.

1 – 4    1st and 3rd ladies cast off one place and dance into the centre line of the dance to finish facing up the dance. Meanwhile 2nd and 4th men cast up one place and dance into the centre line of the dance to finish 2nd man facing 1st lady, and 4th man facing 3rd lady.
   
5 – 12    1st and 3rd ladies with 2nd and 4th men dance a reel of four up and down the centre line of the dance. To start the reel 2nd man passes 1st lady right shoulder and 4th man likewise with 3rd lady.

13 – 16    1st lady with 2nd man and likewise 3rd lady with 4th man turn each other three quarters round by the right hand to return to places.

17 – 20    1st man with 2nd lady, and likewise 3rd man with 4th lady, turn each other by the right hand once round and return to places.

21 – 24    1st couple with 2nd couple and likewise 3rd couple with 4th couple dance four hands round to the left.
   
25 – 28    All joining hands on the sidelines, dance advance and retire.

29 – 32    1st couple, right hands joined, lead to 4th place, while 2nd, 3rd and 4th couples join nearer hands and step up on bars 29-30.

Repeat with a new leading couple.

RSCDS Book 22 – No. 10
32-bar jig for three couples in a four-couple longwise set

1 – 8    1st couple set and, giving right hands, cross over, cast off one place and,    giving left hands, turn to face first corners. 2nd couple step up on bars 5-6.

9 – 16    1st couple and first corners dance a corner chain. 1st couple finish facing second corners.

17 – 24    1st couple and second corners dance a corner chain. 1st couple finish in second place on own sides.

25 – 32    2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance six hands round and back.

Repeat, having passed a couple.

Dances for February 21, 2013




We currently don't have a program for the March social. As a result we are going to do some dances from the ball program that haven't been covered yet this year.

Also, we will indulging the teachers this week and doing Jeannie o' the Witchin' E'e. I have been asked to teach at the West End Workshop (west end of Toronto) and hope to do this dance in one of the classes.If you are in the Toronto area on March 23 you can come and dance.

This is a demonstration where they are starting from both ends.

1-4    1st woman advances to partners and sets to him
5-6    1st woman dances round behind 2nd man and faces him
7-8    1st woman sets to 2nd man

9-12    1st woman gives right hand to partner then left hand to 2nd man and all three set twice.
13-16    1st woman turns partner under his right arm to finish in allemande position facing 2nd woman. 2nd couple step up on bars 15-16

17-22    1st couple dance a figure of eight round 2nd couple, passing  2nd woman with right shoulder to begin.
23-24    1st man turns his partner under his right arm to finish back to back in the middle of the set, 1st man facing 2nd woman and 1st woman facing 2nd man, ready for a reel of four.

25-32    1st and 2nd couple dance a reel of four across the dance, 1st couple finish facing each other in the middle having passed each other with the right shoulders.

33-40    1st couple set twice then turn one and a half times with the right hand to finish on own sides in second place.

Repeat having passed a couple

32-bar strathspey for two couples in a four-couple longwise set

1 – 16    1st couple dance a petronella turn to face each other up and down the middle and set. 1 st  couple repeat this three times to finish in original places. On bars 1-2, 2nd couple step up and, on bars 3-4 set. 2nd couple dance petronella turns and set, following the 1st couple one place behind. On bars 15-16, instead of setting, 2nd couple dance a petronella turn to original places.

17 – 24    1st couple lead down the middle and up.

25 – 28    1st and 2nd couples dance right hands across once round to finish facing partners in a diagonal line across the set with 1st woman and 2nd man back to back in the middle.

29 – 32    1st and 2nd couples dance a half poussette.

Repeat, having passed a couple.

32 bar hornpipe for 3 couples

1 – 4    First and second women turn 1 ½ times with left hands to change places while first and second men turn 1 ½ times with right hands. First couple finish facing out.
5 – 8    First couple dance down behind third couple, meet and dance up to second place finishing back to back (facing own side) ready for : -

9 – 16    Double triangles - on bars 15-16, as first couple set, they turn right about to face each other, still in the centre.

17 – 24    First couple, joining both hands, slip down the middle and up to second place, remaining in the centre of the dance.

25 – 28    First woman dances left hands across with second and third men while first man dances right hands across with second and third women.
29 – 32    First couple dance a half figure of eight round second couple to finish in             second place on own sides.

Repeat having passed a couple.

1 – 2    1st and 2nd couples set.

3 – 8    1st and 2nd women cross over, passing partner by the right to face up and then 1st woman, followed by 2nd woman, dances clockwise round to finish in second place on own side. 2nd woman finishes in first place on own side.

9 – 16    1st and 2nd couples dance right hands across and left hands back.

17 – 18    1st and 2nd couples set.

19 – 24    1st and 2nd men cross over, passing the woman opposite by the right to face down and then 2nd man, followed by 1st man, dances clockwise round to finish in first place on own side. 1st man finishes in second place on own side.

25 – 32    2nd and 1st couples dance rights and lefts.

1 – 8    1st and 2nd couples dance the tourbillon, first couple finish facing out.
   
1 – 2    1st and 2nd couples turn with two hands half-way round. After one bar, 1st man releases his left hand to dance into 2nd woman’s place, while 1st woman dances into her original place. 2nd woman similarly release her left hand to dance into 1st man’s place while 2nd man dances into his original place.
3 – 4    1st couple set to 2nd couple.
5 – 6   1st and 2nd couples turn with both hands half-way round. After one bar, 1st woman releases her left hand to dance into 2nd man’s place while 1st man dances into 2nd woman’s place while 2nd woman dances into 1st man’s place.
7 – 8       2nd and 1st couples, giving right hands, cross over.

9 – 16    1st couple cast to their right, woman going round 3rd woman right shoulder, man round 2nd man, right shoulder, pass each other right shoulder in the centre of the set and cast to the right, woman round 2nd woman, man round 3rd man, to second place own sides, pass partner right shoulder to finish in second place on opposite sides.

17 – 28    2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance rights and lefts for three couples.
   
17 – 18 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples cross over giving right hands.
19 – 20    2nd woman and 1st man change places on the sides, while 1st woman and 3rd man do the same, while 2nd man and 3rd woman change places diagonally, all giving left hands.
21 – 22 1st man and 3rd woman, 2nd woman and 3rd man and 2nd man and 1st woman all                cross giving right hands.

23 – 24 3rd couple and 2nd couple change places on the sides, while 1st couple change places diagonally, all giving left hands.
25 – 26    3rd man and 1st woman, 3rd woman and 2nd man and 1st man and 2nd woman all cross giving right hands.
27 – 28    1st woman and 2nd man, 3rd woman and 1st man change places on the sides, while 3rd man and 2nd woman cross diagonally, all giving left hands.

29 – 32    1st couple turn one and a half times with both hands to finish in 2nd place ready to start again.

Devised by Irene Paterson of Mukilteo, Washington State, in memory of Bob Blackie, a wonderful friend, dancer and teacher. He left us far too soon in May 1998.

The Bob Blackie Memorial fund was created by his good friend Ed Jones to acknowledge Bob’s longtime work with TAC. The fund brings a recipient to Summer School each year.

9 – 16    1st and 3rd couples dance right hands across and left hands back to finish on own sides, 1st and 3rd women facing up, 1st and 3rd men facing down.

17 – 24    1st woman, followed by 3rd woman, dances a reel of three across the set with 2nd couple. At the same time, 3rd man, followed by 1st man, dances a reel of three across the set with 4th couple. To begin, 1st woman and 2nd man, 3rd man and 4th woman pass by the left. 3rd couple finish in second place, 1st couple in third place.

25 – 28    1st and 4th couples dance half rights and lefts.

29 – 32    4th and 1st couples, giving right hands, turn one and half times.

Scott Meikle is the son of well-known bandleader, George Meikle, and was a member of the team that danced for HM the Queen at Edinburgh City Chambers as part of the Society’s 75th Anniversary celebrations in 1998.

The Machine Without Horses

32-bar jig for three couples in a four-couple longwise set

1 – 4    1st couple set and cast off one place. 2nd couple step up on bars 3-4.

5 – 8    1st and 3rd couples dance right hands across once round.

9 – 12    1st couple set and cast up one place. 2nd couple step down on bars 11-12.

13 – 16    1st and 2nd couples dance left hands across once round.

17 – 24    1st couple, followed by 2nd couple who dance up the sides to begin, dance down between 3rd couple cast up round them, dance up to the top, and cast off into second place, while 2nd couple dance up into top place.

25 – 32    1st and 2nd couples dance rights and lefts.

At the Summit
a 32 bar strathspey for 3 couples

1 – 4    1st couple turn once round with both hands to face up and cast off one place on own sides. 2nd couple step up on bars 3-4.

5 – 8    1st couple cross, giving right hands, cast round first corners by the right and finish back to back in the middle, facing their first corners.

9 – 12    1st couple set to their first corners. 1st couple then cast around each other by the right to finish in their partner’s first corner position, while their corners dance into the middle and, pulling back right shoulders, finish back to back, facing their original positions.

13 – 16    1st couple and first corners set to each other. First corners cast round each other by the right to finish on the opposite sides in each other’s original positions, while 1st couple dance into the middle and, pulling back right shoulders, finish back to back, facing their second corners.

17 – 24    1st couple repeat bars 9–16 with second corners but pass by the right on bars 23-24 to finish in second place on opposite sides. Second corners finish on the opposite sides in each other’s original positions.

25 – 32    3rd, 1st and 2nd couples Set and Link twice to finish on their own sides in             the order 2, 1, 3.

This dance was devised for Bob and Barbara Anglin in appreciation of their support and encouragement as we began teaching in Ottawa and running the Ottawa Valley workshop. 
We had an exceptional day with Bob & Barbara at the summit of Whistler before the TAC AGM in July, 2009.

Note: The movement described in bars 9-24 was first devised by the late Alex Hay and published in his dance “Peter White”.

17 – 24    1st man, followed by his partner, casts behind 2nd man, crosses up between 2nd couple, casts behind 2nd woman and crosses to 2nd place on own side. 1st woman finishes in 2nd woman’s place. 2nd couple step up on bars 23-24.

25 – 32    2nd and 1st couples dance right hands across and left hands across.

32-bar reel for three couples in a four-couple longwise set

1 – 6    1st woman casts off two places, crosses to the opposite side and dances up behind 2nd and 3rd men to her partner’s original place. 1st man follows his partner, crossing over and dancing behind 2nd and 3rd women, and up the middle to his partner’s original place.

7 – 8    1st couple set to each other.

9 – 14    1st couple repeat bars 1-6, with 1st man casting off and 1st woman following. 1st couple finish in original places.

15 – 16    1st couple set to each other.

17 – 24    1st couple lead down the middle and up to finish facing each other in the middle of the set with both hands joined. 2nd couple step in.

25 – 32    1st and 2nd couples dance a poussette.
