Dances for November 18, 2010

Tonight we will be covering a new formation - poussette. Usually a challenge because it requires all Pas de Basque. Don't worry we will take it in small pieces. The dances this week are from the Christmas Social program.

Tonight we also have a round the room dance. This will be unfamiliar with both the basic and intermediate classes.

Book 3 – No. 5
32-bar jig for two couples in a four-couple longwise set

Bars                        Description
1 – 4        1st woman and 2nd man advance and retire.
5 – 8        1st woman and 2nd man dance back to back, passing by the right to begin.

9 – 16        1st man and 2nd woman repeat bars 1-8.

17 – 24    1st couple lead down the middle and up to finish in the middle of the set,             facing     partner with both hands joined. 2nd couple step in.

25 – 32    1st and 2nd couples dance a poussette.

        Repeat, having passed a couple.

17th century tune known as Lesley’s March to Scotland. Published in Watt’s Musical Miscellany 1731 and Oswald 1755. Sir Walter Scot wrote the song Blue Bonnets over the Border to this tune.

1-4 The dancers in the center of the line dance right hands across with the two dancers on their right.
5-8 The center dance around the corner on their right

9-12 centers dance left hands across with their two parters
13-16 centers dance left shoulder around the partner that was on their left

17-24 outside dancers advance and retire and turn with the right hand

25-30 all dancers chase clockwise around the set. All pass the dancer the are facing right shoulder and meet a new line of three dancers
